319th Signal Battalion Article

The Sacramento Bee printed an article on the event I mentioned yesterday commemorating the 319th Signal Battalion. Check the link out here!

Here's an excerpt:

Sept. 11 is now a federal holiday called Patriot Day, and some other activities Saturday centered more on the troops stationed overseas than the anniversary of the attacks.

The 319th Signal Battalion, an Army Reserve unit based in Sacramento, was honored at Country Club Plaza. Nearly the entire unit has been deployed to Iraq and Kuwait.

"Our emphasis is on recognizing the families of soldiers," said Sgt. Jeremy Kingley. "Politics aside, people are making sacrifices, and that's what this is all about."

Families of the 319th gathered to share experiences, support one another and collect donations for Christmas care packages for the troops.

Rose Gutierrez, whose son David was deployed in March, drove from Atwater to meet fellow military moms.

"It is really hard for me, especially when he first left," she said. "He's not around for the holidays and family functions."

Inside the mall, there was a photo exhibit of the soldiers on duty and their families at home.

"Everybody is going; it's not if you're going to deploy but when," said Jim Akers, a chief warrant officer, who returned from Iraq in August.

Comments

Wow, their relatives a proud of them, because they are going to a foreign country and murder innocent Iraqi people. Perhaps their fathers are proud of them because they made the same 30 to 40 years ago.
I think it cannot bring the dead Iraqui people back, but perhaps it will be at least a morally victory, if in the near future you guys get out off Iraque as humiliated as you got out of Vietnam. And dont mourn about your small number of dead friends, I hope someday you will recognize that every Iraqui who has died is as much worth as your soldiers (or should I say murderers).
Greetings
Alter Ego

Sgt: I have to say that you -- and every single man & woman in the US Miliary -- are true HEROS in every sense of the word. I know, I know.. you're going to say, "I'm just doing my job." you may not think you're a hero, but I and MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of others certainly do! you are out there fighting for truth, justice, and freedom, putting your life on the line so that our lives will NOT be on the line, so that we can live in peace, safety, and most importantly, FREEDOM. Your dedication and sacrifice is GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Luv from Georgia, Kat & Family

Alter Ego,
Those who capture innocents, civilians and volunteers who are there at times in protest of the war (essentially on the side of the resistance), those who brutally behead those innocent hostages like savages and callously announce their victory to the world… are these the people you say have value?
I believe that the majority of Iraqis would STRONGLY disagree. I can not speak for all of them, only for those who are my dear friends. These volatile examples of our species are a plaque on the lives of good people; they torture them as equally as those they fight against, and take away their freedom and their lives. At often times using them as shields and hiding as cowards among them. These you would claim are your victims? Your heroes?
Either you exist on the same repulsive level of thought as these ruthless terrorists, or you are ignorant to the world and just rallying without a real education. If you are simply ignorant and not in the thick of things, than perhaps you should start to LISTEN TO THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE. Like I said I have only a handful of friends that I can speak for. Still I find other sources, to quote another Iraqi:

“There’s a pole at the popular “ New Sabah” newspaper that demonstrate this clearly as about 93.65% voted as agreeing with the government policy in Iraq.”
http://newsabah.com/modules.php?name=Surveys&op=results&pollID=5&mode=&order=&thold

”We in Iraq accepted the sacrifices needed to remove Saddam… Isn’t it amazing that many people in the west and some Americans blame the American army and administration for the life losses and mess in Najaf, while Najafies are strongly blaming Sadr in their latest demonstration without a word to condemn the American army!? Aren’t people, even seemingly simple people, smarter than what some media elite thinkers and reporters want us to believe!?”

As for America, if you live there and have no respect for those who fight so bravely to protect your right to ramble off such worthless propaganda, then just leave. In America you have that choice. Hopefully soon the owner of this site will be able to come on and remove your comment (and mine as well).

Until then I felt I should give at least my friends a voice. And with that voice I say thank you, to all who so bravely serve the cause. Not only to those from the United States, but to those from all of the Coalition, including the brave Iraqis who have stood up to fight for their own country!

VERY well said, Rebekka! I couldn't agree more. you are exactly right. I wanted to post something directly in response, but was too mad to think straight, LOL!

*cheers* *applauds*

Rebekka and Alter Ego - two examples of clashing pan-arabic world views.

One seeing hope. One seeing hopelessness.

Leaving the rest of us to either help one of them survive, or 'withdraw with honor' and allow chaos to determine the outcome.

Is there a question here as to which is the proper thing to do?

Well, maybe only to the C3PO types.

hoorah to the 319th. I was once a soldier there and I still feel like I belong. Of course that was 10 years ago, now I fly B-52's for the Air Force. A good portion of our training involves Close Air Support for the guys soldiers on the ground and I always feel a closeness to them. Here's to the 319th, I miss you lots, hoorah.

P.S. Alter Ego, I hope to God that my friends never find out who you are. my comments are directed to those who are not arab women and children. you openly support those who are obviously enemy's of this country. My view is that you and those like you are nothing but animals that deserve to be put down like animals-one bullet. Your Jihad is a muderous joke just like your god allah. Arabs couldn't even defeat their most hated enemy Israel when it was 7 to 1 in the 7 days war. Muslims are weak soldiers that like to hide behind those "innocents" as you call them - women and children. so some of you animals come here to this country and hide behind the 1st amendment. yeah that sure is a warrior.

Hi everyone,

This was my Battalion in 1996-1997. I really do appreciate everyone there. I am no longer in the reserves, but I do think about the people that I worked with. I do miss all of you and I do thank god for you everyday. Thank you for serving this beautiful country. I know in my heart you are heros!!

Love all of you
