The Project Begins

I want to begin by thanking you for taking the time to check out this blog as this exciting new project begins.  In the welcome section, I have posted a brief idea of what I am setting out to accomplish.  Throughout my year long deployment to Operation Iraqi Freedom, I received some amazing gestures of support from folks all over our great country.  I intend on spending the next few months meeting with some of these patriots, and discovering the heart of service behind the support those of us who are deployed receive from the home front.  Ultimately, this experience will culminate in a unique memoir that is not just a narrative on one soldier's wartime experience, but an introspective look at what we as Americans have done, and can do, to help support America's armed forces.  Stay tuned for more information as I share with you my progress in this unique American travelogue.  You can read the projects description below:

With the advent of blogging technologies, soldiers in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom have not just transformed the way we reflect on our nations 25 million veterans, they have also changed the way Americans are able to follow the lives of our service members and forge personal relationship with them in combat zones. As an Army Reservist and soldier blogger who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, I can attest to the impact of battlefield blogs. My blog garnered attention from hundreds of thousands of visitors as well as mass media outlets like USA Today and CNN.

Returning home in March of 2005, I have set my heart on beginning an extensive road-trip through our country to personally thank the individuals I formed the deepest relationships with through the blog. The supporters I have selected offer a broad regional and demographic sample, and offer unique insight and stories that will prove to be inspiring and insightful. In a drastically new approach to a soldier’s memoir, Web of Support: How A Soldier’s Blog Connected Him With American Patriots opens a window into the life of a deployed American soldier who blogged his experiences. Perhaps even more importantly, it provides an inspiring look at what some individuals around the country are doing to display their patriotism in a time of war. This book will be a link between the experiences of what soldier blogs broadcast on their websites and the personal impacts blogging has on a soldier while they are at war and when they return home. It will blend the elements of a soldier memoir with the emotional impacts of Chicken Soup for the Soul.

The combination of nearly five years of military service, extensive experience in politics on local and national levels, and work with several of California’s most influential public relations firms make me uniquely qualified to help put into the forefront of America’s consciousness, the necessity of supporting America’s deployed forces. The impact of a book that encompasses the experiences of the modern soldier participating in support operations in a war zone, combined with his pursuit to discover the hearts of true American patriots all across this country upon his return, has the potential to touch the hearts of innumerable readers. It is my desire that such a story touches your heart as well, and you consider working with me to bring this message of service and patriotism to the public.

Thank you once again for your consideration of this project, and I hope you’ll be interested to work with me as I weave the strands together for the “Web of Support” that made service to our country an honor second to none.
